Simple Ways to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes



It has been said that "prevention is better than cure". No truer words have been spoken, as how many of us would prefer not to ever have a disease or illness than to be diagnosed with one and then have to look to find a cure.
With regard to Type 2 Diabetes, many studies have been conducted that prove that simple changes in lifestyle can aid in the prevention of this horrible, debilitating disease.
Sometimes it is a genetic condition which, obviously we can do nothing about preventing the occurrence of it. However, there is a growing body of evidence confirming that your best protection against Type 2 diabetes is to make lifestyle changes. Eating a healthy balanced diet, regular physical activity and nutritional supplements can make all the difference. Being overweight is almost always a precursor to getting Type 2 Diabetes.




The combination of a Low Glycemic Index Diet, exercise and nutritional supplementation can prevent, halt or reverse the onset of Type 2 diabetes according to an article published in the Diabetes Special Issue of The Mancet medical journal.
Type 2 diabetes is an extremely serious condition. If it is not diagnosed early and managed effectively, it can lead to life-threatening complications including heart disease, stroke, blindness and amputation. It is also called the "Silent Killer" sometimes because many times its symptoms go unnoticed until, sadly a person's life is taken due to the harmful effects of this disease.
Have you ever noticed that a common thread in disease prevention of any kind is exercise? It obviously does a body good. Exercise can take the form of walking, swimming, sports and many other ways including certain types of housework. The key is that, as human beings, our bodies need exercise to assist in the normal functioning of our bodies. I would suggest, at a minimum, exercising 3 times per week for at least 30 minutes. In this case, if you can handle more, then more would be better.
