Reducing Your Risk of Developing Type II Diabetes




So how do you reduce your risk of getting diabetes? Although you can't control your age or heredity, and there are genetic and age related factors, there are at least three things you can do.
A healthy weight: A healthy weight can not only reduce the likelihood of developing type two diabetes but can also reduce symptoms for those who already have it. Studies have shown that losing a mere 10 pounds can reduce your risk of developing type two diabetes by sixty percent! There are other health related reasons to maintain a healthy weight too of course!
Regular exercise: Regular exercise can significantly reduce your risk. You don't need to run marathons, just get off the couch! For example, walking 30 minutes a few times a week can have a very significant effect. Just like with a healthy weight, regular exercise is important for other health reasons as well.




Have a healthy diet: No surprise, but what you eat matters. We can't go into all the specifics here, but you pretty much already know what is healthy and what isn't. Even if you are thin and fit, you should not be eating excessive amounts of fatty nutrition sparse foods. A healthy diet is important whether you are at risk for diabetes or not.
Type two diabetes is the most common form and is unfortunately very common. Several of my friends have developed it in their thirties and forties, and it shortens lifespans. You can however control the risk factors and hopefully never develop it.
