At each ante-natal check up, pathological tests of a pregnant woman's urine is done to detect the sugar content if any. Presence of about 0.25 percent of sugar is quite common at around 32 weeks of pregnancy as the kidneys become less efficient to prevent sugar from entering into the urine. It is not diabetes and normally does not cause any harm.
But a higher level of sugar in the urine may suggest the presence of a higher level of sugar in the blood also. This can be detected by ‘Glucose tolerance test' and proper treatment is needed. Control of diet with rare administration of insulin injection can control a very high level of sugar.
In such cases, the fetus grows faster than normal and can cause problem for the baby during or after the delivery.
Generally the glucose level comes down to normal after the baby is born
