Control Your Diabetes With Diet and Exercise

Diabetes Mellitus occurs in two forms: Type 1 and Type2. Type 1 Diabetes may occur at any age, but usually occurs before the age of 30. Type 2 Diabetes can occur at any age and now it is occurring in the young people due to their eating habits and even obesity.
What can you do about Type 2? Exercise, Medications and Diet.
What type of exercise is appropriate? Choose an exercise that suits your personality and climate. It can be anything from swimming to soccer. Discuss your physical activity plans with your physician before starting out.
What type of medications? Your physician might not put you on any medication, but then he might place you on oral medication or insulin injections. Take all of your medication as prescribed and keep follow up visits with your doctor.

What type of diet? Diabetes requires a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat with just the right about calories. There is 1200, 1500 and 1800 calorie diet depending on how much weight you might need to lose.
Diabetes Mellitus occurs in about 8% of the U.S. population and the causes are unknown. Risk factors would include a BMI greater than 27, family history of diabetes, history of gestational diabetes, hypertension and even age.
Some of these risk factors you can control and one would be your BMI. Your body mass index represents your weight versus your height. If you have a BMI great than 25 you are twice as likely to develop cardiac disease and even a stroke and place you at risk of developing Diabetes Type 2.
Take charge of your health and your life. Start that exercise program. Take those medications as prescribed, and study the diabetic diet guidelines which would include a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat.
