Black Tea and Diabetes

While many enjoy drinking tea as a beverage of choice they might not be aware of its therapeutic effects. Most of us have heard of the antioxidant benefits of green tea; however, when it comes to diabetes there may be an even better source of insulin than the shots your physician gives you. According to British newspapers, black tea may help cure diabetes.
Currently diabetes is the world's 4th leading cause of death and the fatality rate increases daily. It is estimated to affect 246 million people globally. Type II diabetes is one of the common health conditions. Obesity rates have risen in this country, so has diabetes.
A common treatment for diabetes is insulin yet this method leaves the user on a lifetime path of prescription pills and shots as well as a lifetime of medical debt. For those who wish to forgo such treatments it's becoming more and more important to understand how to not only prevent diabetes but to find the best ways to holistically treat those who are already affected.

Regular exercise and proper diet are the two most important ways to prevent diabetes. However, if you have already been diagnosed and are on insulin you should know that scientists have discovered that there might be a secret weapon in the fight against diabetes, and it's safe and simple.
What is this amazing weapon? If you are suffering from diabetes tea may be your answer. The BBC has reported on research that found that some constituents of black tea imitate the action of insulin in the body. For years we have known that green tea has had beneficial antioxidant properties but we are now learning that both green and black teas have been shown to help control blood sugar levels. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently completed a study designed to determine whether tea has insulin-enhancing activity. Researchers found that tea shows such activity, from fat cells taken from rats. Ordinary tea, prepared just as humans normally consume it, was shown, in fact, to increase the insulin activity in these cells by more than 15-fold-a dramatic effect by any standard.
Oddly enough, when milk was added to the tea (whole or skim) to the tea the beneficial effect was nearly wiped out; in fact, there was a greater than 90% reduction with 50 grams (about 10 teaspoons) of milk in one cup of tea. Soymilk and other  creamers were  tested, and they killed the effect. By contrast, adding lemon juice did not diminish the effect. When the mice were given tea, it was found that their blood sugar levels stayed the same and did not rise beyond normal levels.

Pre-diabetics who are trying to stop diabetes from progressing, adding tea may be the best wat help get your blood sugar levels stay normal. You will need to  keep up an  exercise routine and healthy diet and , as well.
Even for those who already have Type II diabetes, drinking tea regularly may help you keep your levels regulated with less need to take medication.
