Having Lower Blood Sugar in 6 Easy Steps



1. Monitor Blood Glucose Levels

If you are a diabetic, you probably know of the importance of monitoring and always keeping your sugar levels in check. After all, one of the bottom lines of diabetes management is to be able to maintain a normal blood glucose level. This is why hyperglycemia or high sugar is something that you should never tolerate. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of high blood sugar, make sure that you treat these and the condition itself immediately. Otherwise, you might find yourself fending off more serious help problems.

2. Watch your diet

High blood glucose is unlike low blood sugar on numerous accounts. For one, it develops gradually and over time, unlike hypoglycemia which can happen very fast.

This is because whatever you eat or drink directly affects the amount of sugar in your blood since this sugar comes from the food you eat and drink. Avoid foods that are made with simple sugars and at the same time, try to add more complex carbohydrates (grains, oats, sweet potatoes, rice, etc) in your diet. It is also advisable to eat more soluble fibers, fruits, and vegetables that are low in saturated sugar and fats.

3. Regular eating hours

The quality and health attributes of the food you eat, however, is only one part of the package. You also need to eat on schedule if you want lower blood sugar. Skipping meals and eating outside normal eating hours disrupts your sugar levels. When you skip a meal, especially if its breakfast, you will suffer from low blood sugar but after you've eaten, you will experience a sugar rush and consequently have a high blood glucose level.




4. Get moving

Exercise is another proven means to lower blood sugar. Regular exercise and physical activity burns away excessive fat stores in the body and increases its sensitivity to insulin. This means that less insulin than usual is required to lower blood glucose levels. Exercise, however, should be done in moderation and must be balanced out by a healthy diet. The more you physical activities you engage in, the more you should eat. Otherwise, you are likely to have alarmingly low blood sugar or hypoglycemia, which is dangerous to your health.

5. Deal with stress

Stress is one of the known causes of high blood sugar. Needless to say, dealing and managing your stress is an effective way to lower blood sugar level. Stress causes high blood sugar levels because it triggers the release of adrenaline hormones, which in turn releases your body's sugar reserve. Stress also interferes with your daily life and more often than not, prevents you from having a healthy lifestyle. Find a way to deal with the things that causes you stress and your sugar level is sure to go down with them.

6. Follow your medications to the dot

There are times when high sugar is caused by improper or insufficient medication. If you feel that your insulin or any other diabetes medicine is not doing its job to lower your blood sugar, it is best to seek advice from your doctor. You may need to change your medicine or increase your dosage. Never attempt to do either of the two without your doctor's guidance or permission.
